M.I.A. Burqa. What is the statement that she’s trying to make?

Hmmm. I read an interview with her (months ago) in Bust magazine, I think, where she made the statement that the most “daring, exciting” fashion statement that she had seen, of late, was that of a Muslim woman covered in all black.
She made this comment in the context of her ongoing criticism of Lady Gaga’s “in your face” nudity and her pop-culture materialism.
Wearing this at the SCREAM awards-is perhaps a commentary on the fear of veiled Muslim women?
Strangely- I keep thinking how uncomfortable (and dare I say flammable & cheap) the material looks. I guess I am showing my “insider” abaya snobbery.
